You’ve probably been told to “eat more fiber” throughout your life. But do you know why? Dietary fiber – mainly found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes – is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve occasional constipation. But there are a whole host of benefits to having a fiber-rich diet.
Unlike fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, your body doesn’t digest fiber. Instead, fiber passes relatively intact through your stomach, small intestine, colon, and then out of your body.
